Why Hasn't Wendi Adelson Been Charged In Dan Markel's Murder?

Five people are in prison for the law professor's killing — and the state has named two more as co-conspirators in open court. So why are they still free?

Five people are behind bars for the murder of Dan Markel. Two hitmen. The go-between who connected them. The brother who allegedly paid for it. And, after a decade, the mother who allegedly orchestrated the whole thing. Every single one of them — convicted.

And yet, if you’ve followed this case the way I have, you know the names everyone keeps coming back to aren’t on that list. Wendi Adelson — Dan’s ex-wife, the woman who arguably stood to gain the most from his death, the mother of his two boys. And Harvey Adelson — the family patriarch who was standing on a jetway next to Donna with one-way tickets to Vietnam when she got arrested. Vietnam. A country that won’t send you back.

The state of Florida has called both of them unindicted co-conspirators. Not once, not as a slip — repeatedly, in open court, across multiple trials. That is the government saying, on the record, in front of judges, we believe these two were part of a conspiracy to murder a man in his own garage.

So here’s the question that won’t leave me alone. After Donna went down, the State Attorney looked into the cameras and said his office would make decisions in the coming weeks. That was months ago. And since then? Silence. No arrest. No grand jury. No announcement. Nothing.

What does that silence mean? Is it a case still being built, brick by careful brick — or a trail that’s gone cold? Wendi testified at every trial under limited immunity, a deal that protects her unless she lied up there. But how on earth do you prove someone lied about what they did or didn’t know? And Harvey — quiet, never on the stand, never confronted — is he simply going to walk away from all of it?
